For anyone who has upgraded to the Leopard OS and iLife08, you may have noticed, the latest is NOT the greatest. Those of us who use iMovie for simple but precise edits and easy conversion to DVD, iMovie08 has gone through drastic changes and is a nightmare.
No longer do you have a timeline and the ability to “split at the playhead” (at least from what I could find). I also could not find anywhere to capture a frame, and converting to a DVD? OMG. There is no direct process anymore. iMovie08 was going to take 239 minutes to convert one hour of video BEFORE I could take it into iDVD08. And no chapter marker ability either. *sigh*
So let’s just remove iLife08 and go back to iLife06, right? Wrong. Even though iMovie06 is compatible with the Leopard OS, iDVD06 is not. Sooooo, let’s do iMovie06 and iDVD08!! Hmmmmm, that didn’t work either. Apparently iMovie06 and iDVD08 are not completely compatible with each other.
Looking through forums on the web, I see I’m not the only one that has run into these problems and no doubt Apple has heard the complaints. So Apple came out with an “update” to retro your iMovie08 back to a “revised” version of iMovie06 that is compatible with iDVD08. So far it seems to be working (fingers crossed).

And always keep in mind, the latest is NOT the greatest. IT people know, upgrades break things more often than not. So if it’s working, leave it alone! At least until they work out all the bugs and problems.
